Remember when everyone thought cameos were old fashioned? When you sold all the brooches your grandma used to wear to keep her cardigan closed? You might want to reconsider. Well, last week Rihanna Fenty Jewelry released a cameo collection.
According to Vogue, superstar Robyn Rihanna Fenty has launched a new jewelry collection. She unveiled her Fenty Cameo Jewelry Collection celebrating the beauty of all black women. On Oct. 30, the wealthiest female musician released a four-piece collection named The Cameo with prices ranging between $340 and $530. Rihanna herself has been a supporter of the cameo resurgence—she is often photographed wearing a black and white carved cameo ring by designer Jacquie Aiche. Her new line of jewelry for Fenty—a set of rings, earrings, and pendants—are created from black resin and glass and embellished in Swarovski crystals and pearls. The cameo pieces honor “a new more contemporary heroine.”
In celebration of the creative purpose behind the line, Fenty created an accompanying photoshoot that further highlights its message. In the images, Nigerian photographer Ruth Ossai and hairstylist Issac Poleon focus on the silhouettes of sculptural hairstyles. Hair has always been a central feature of cameo jewelry, providing the texture in the sculpture. Fenty did point out that, “While FENTY’s cameo figure wears box braids tied in buns, the shoot highlights the endless artistic possibilities of afro-hair culture in sculpture.”
According to the Fenty website, Rihanna Fenty Jewelry New Cameo Collection, “The Cameo is an emblem of fearlessness, elevation, creativity, and joy — everything FENTY stands for. More than a sisterhood, FENTY is a coming together of powerful women. The Cameo is part of our legacy.”
