This year 2019, so far, has been amazing and fruitful in the world of music. Artistes have been at their very best in terms of releasing albums. This article will try to make a review on the best albums that have been released this year.
1. ARIANA GRANDE – Thank You Next
This list may be in no particular order but Ariana seems to have 2019 on lockdown. From Thank You Next to Bloodline and Break Up With Your Girlfriend I’m Bored 2019 officially seems to be the year for Ariana, this is definitely an album to check out.
2. BEYONCE – Lion King: The Gift
Let’s hear something from Beyonce! As we already know there were two albums for 2019 – The Homecoming and Lion King: The Gift. Let’s go with the gift where African stars Tekno Burna Boy, Shatta Wale and of course Wizkid were featured. Can we talk about the buzz behind Brown Skin Girl? That song was a favorite for a lot of people so here’s Beyonce with The Gift for you.
3. LIZZO – Cuz I Love
Up next people are baby girl Lizzo. Lizzo bust the scene this year with that mega-hit Truth Hurts off Cuz I Love You album. While we’re on this remember the performance at the 2019 BET Awards? Crazy!! So while we enjoyed the single Truth Hurts, the album is packed with beautiful music and just might register Lizzo as the next Best Rated Act. So I’d say watch out for Lizzo but in the meantime, it’s still 2019 so let’s enjoy this one yet.
4. TYLER THE CREATOR – Igor
This is not an album you should be told about it’s an experience you should have so Igor by Tyler The Creator would be one of his best works so far. Earfquake which was dedicated to his ex and originally written for Justin Bieber and Rihanna is one of his best of his sixth studio album. Go experience!!
5. TAYLOR SWIFT – Lover
Two years after Taylor Swift’s Reputation was released to mixed reviews, the singer has returned to the pop music which made her a global phenomenon. Get ready there’s lots of emotions in there too. Lover is definitely a must-hear
6. YOUNG THUG – So Much Fun
Atlanta-born Jeffrey Williams aka Young Thug signed to Gucci Mane’s record label in 2013.
His debut studio album So Much Fun cements his impressive and growing talent. There’s a roster of rap’s finest alongside him too, from J. Cole and Travis Scott on hit single ‘The London’, to Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Uzi Vert, and Future on other tracks.
7. CHANCE THE RAPPER – The Big Day
And finally the Debut album we’ve been waiting for from Chance! The Big Day is here finally. Is it the wedding or the album release? Whichever we’ll just focus on the great music instead. How about that?
8. FUTURE – Future Hndrxx Presents: The Wizrd
After dropping two albums simultaneously in February 2017, Atlanta rapper Future returns with the final album in his ten year deal with Epic Records.
9. JAMES BLAKE – Assume Form
He’s unfairly called the “sad boy” of British music. Nothing sad about this album Assume Form where he features Andre 3000, Kanye West and Frank Ocean.
10. PINK – Hurts 2B Human
Hurts 2B Human is the eighth studio album by American singer Pink. It was released on April 26, 2019, by RCA Records. Walk Me Home was released as the lead single on February 20, 2019. The album features guest artists Wrabel, Khalid, and Cash Cash, as well as Chris Stapleton. Speaking of soul and depth and vocals she’s your woman. She’s got it all.
11. LEWIS CAPALDI – Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent
Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent, which remained at the top of the UK Albums Chart for six weeks. Lewis Capaldi came in with some really great tracks on this album Divinely Uninspired to a Hellish Extent it was so good that it topped the UK charts for 6 weeks.
Off this album is the song Someone You Loved which topped the UK charts for 7 weeks making it one of the longest chart-toppers in the UK. This album has a lot of soul.
12. DAVE – Psychodrama
This debut studio album debuted at the number one spot on the UK charts in March this year; that’s how great Dave East album turned out. So what do you say? Check it out if you want to know his Location where he featured Burna Boy. Another great recommendation would be Disaster.
13. BILLIE EILISH – When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?
I hear she thought Bad Guy wouldn’t be well received; that is she thought bad guy will be a bad song. Far from it! Bad Guy ended up not only at the top spot on the UK Official Chart but it also landed the top spot on The Billboard Hot 100. Now how is that for bad? Definitely the good kind of bad.
14. SKEPTA- Ignorance Is Bliss
Skepta says Ignorance Is Bliss and we agree simply because we love the music and that’s how far it gets.
Enjoy the gritty grime all the way from the UK. This year definitely stamped Grime as a desired genre of music.
15. Giggs Big Bad
Giggs has been a Landlord since 2016 all the way to 2019 bossing all the neighbors and he isn’t willing to rent. Holding down the grime scene here’s Big Bad hitting you. Listen to the Landlord’s recent album now!!
16. SOLANGE When I Get Home
Two years after the notable A Seat at the Table, Solange Knowles is back with a new album. The project, titled When I Get Home, was released at midnight during the night of February 28th to March 1st, 2019, right during the transition between the “Black History Month” and the “Women’s History Month.
17. KOFFEE Rapture EP
New sensation Koffee is leading the new wave of young talent in to take over reggae music with her refreshing spin on the genre. The 18-year-old Jamaican artist made noise with her song Toast
As Toast continues to rise, Koffee shares her debut Rapture, a five-song EP via Columbia UK Records, including 2 new songs and the already famous Throne, Raggamuffin and Toast.
The Song Rapture itself is a feel-good vibe that has just the right blend of reggae and dancehall.
18. BURNA BOY – African Giant
And here comes the African Giant Burna Boy himself. Brother dropped this album and the whole of Africa went crazy so yes maybe the self-acclaimed title African Giant is befitting of the brother teaming up with acts like Jorja Smith, Damian Marley and Angelique kidjo brother definitely deserves this spot
19. FALZ THE BAD GUY Moral Instruction
Falz, as he is known unlike his name, wasn’t bad at all on this album. Moral Instruction just as the name implies has a lot of instructions what one of it is talk
20. MALUMA 11:11
11:11 is the title of the fourth studio album by Maluma. There’s Madonna, Ty Dolla Sign, Ricky Martin on it. Need I say more? Definitely a perfect Latino mix.
21. KAROL G Oceans
Oceans is second studio album by Columbian artist Karol G. The album has been described as impressively varied.
22. ED SHEERAN No.6 Collaborations Project
No.6 Collaborations Project is the fourth studio album by English singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. It was released on 12 July 2019 by Asylum Records and Atlantic Records. The album is a follow-up to Sheeran’s 2011 EP No. 5 Collaborations Project, and includes a range of guest appearances from artists such as Justin Bieber, Camila Cabello, Travis Scott, Eminem, 50 Cent, Cardi B, Paulo Londra, Young Thug and Bruno Mars, among others, alongside British rappers Stormzy, J Hus and Dave
23. FARRUKO – Gangalee
Gangalee collects these reggaetónero, the Jamaican dancehall styles that helped birth música urbana and adds several more to present a fully realized Spanish-language reggae vision that honors traditions and earns him the right to be considered part of that Caribbean canon.
24. J. COLE Dreamers
The third installment in the rapper’s series of collaborative albums topped the Billboard 200 finally reaching No. 1. This time he features Dreamville artists including Bad, Cozz, Earthgang etc.
25. KEHLANI – While We Wait
While We Wait is Kehlani’s 4th project. The nine songs on While We Wait sometimes feel like a scripted drama about just how complicated love and communication can be in our hyper-mediated present. Kehlani meets peers like SZA and Drake in illustrating those messy realities and then some, sifting through past traumas, suppressed feelings, the shortcomings of language, and the constraints of masculinity.
